The human seasonal-dynamic migration hypothesis

The following hypothesis was created as a proposal for a business model to improve the economic performance of a small business (The Garden-Generator Startup) while ensuring the environmental adaptation and social well-being of the future team. Since many things have changed from the proposal and the startup is focused only on its business activities in Morocco, it may take several years for the startup to acquire adequate resources, build infrastructure, and organize profitable seasonal migration to nordern Europe.

If you are curious about the hypothesis and want to learn more about it, leave us a message und we will be happy to help.

Since early childhood I have been fascinated by migratory birds, each autumn crowd of birds flies through the skies of the west coast of Morocco coming from the north and moving to the south, and during spring the other way around. Unfortunately, because of human destructive behavior on the environment the numbers of migratory birds are declining, many if not most of the stop areas of the birds are now contaminated due to toxic waste from human settlements. One of the natural links between Europe and Africa is a migration system that comprises enormous numbers of birds traveling between the two continents twice each year. Such migration systems are not limited to birds, but many living beings such as whales and many mammals are following similar systems. By moving and living between Morocco, Germany, and Denmark, I have experienced the climates, the natural world, and the cultures of those regions. Our homes and workplaces in larger areas of the northern parts of the planet consume much more energy during the winter in comparison to the summer. In the south, it is the opposite, during the summer a huge amount of the energy is used for cooling. The construction industry has operation difficulties because of the cold weather during wintertime in Mainz and because of the hot weather during the summertime in Mohammedia. This leads to considerable financial and energy losses, that the startup intends to avoid.

The startup plans to operate between 2 localities one in northern Europe and one in northern Africa, Mainz, and Mohammedia. As a civil engineering company, the startup intends to operate from April until September each year physically in Mainz and for the rest of the year only digitally. From October until March the physical operation of the startup will take place in Mohammedia and during the rest of the year only digitally.

Distance: Approximately 2800km

Transportation: Around 3h 30 flight & around 30h drive

With the goal of reducing energy consumption and simultaneously increasing the productivity potential of the population, a dynamic migration is proposed. Life itself in all shapes and forms is not static. Migration from north to south and the other way around (from Arctic Circle to the equator regions) is considered to have economical, socio-cultural, and environmental advantages in comparison to the existing 100% settlement structure with one-month vocation. This is why nations of the north and nations of the south have to come to reasonable agreements with each other, on how to establish seasonable migration opportunities with low bureaucratic requirements. The financial incentive will be generated automatically by the market. The stability that can be provided by a dynamic seasonable migration of a part of the population is incredible. It can reduce a considerable percentage of energy consumption and lessen the pressure on water consumption during the dry season in the south.

More trade routes will be generated by seasonal migrants that can drive innovation and economic growth considerably. Betterment in the quality of life can be expected, especially the physical and psychological health. Physical health improvement: More activities outdoor are comfortably possible, natural vitamin d is continuously present, and for many seniors lesser risk due to the seasonal flu or similar, etc. Psychological health improvement: Less depression due to many months of harsh winter in the north or many months of uncomfortably hot summer in the south. Some parts of the planet suffer from aging populations others from youth without employment; a well-organized seasonal migration can solve this problem without disturbing the societal constructs of nations.

In the hundreds of close encounters with people of many colures and backgrounds, I observed, that people who have migrated for a period of time in their lives were much more open-minded, tolerant, and flexible thinkers in comparison to people who lived in just one location. A working- or studying-migration for a season can lead to a positive impact on the development of people as well as their environmental surroundings, especially if it can be seasonally repeated. One of its positive impacts is the diversification of the population in terms of culture, knowledge, and skills. Monocultures are not sustainable and are susceptible to different kinds of stresses that can be observed in human, fauna, and flora systems.

Humans are much more effective at a certain frame of temperature, which is naturally absent for half the year and it is compensated with extra energy consumption, either for cooling or heating. The digital nomads and seasonal workers can be the first to adapt to such a system and take advantage of its use. The digital nomads have tremendous disadvantages in the existing system, if allowed to migrate dynamically between two or more locations yearly, the economy especially the digital part of it will boom with innovation. The same thing applies to seasonal workers such as construction workers which can’t work outside when it is freezing or too hot, farm workers in different geo-locations have totally different climates parallel, circus businesses that are following good weather conditions, senior citizens, etc. A flexible taxation structure should be adapted fairly, in order to incentivize the seasonal migrants to take the necessary actions with the risks associated with them.

The hypothesis (as described in this article) came to existance as I was trying to find a way to be personally more effective in my particular life and profession, but soon it made more sense to generalize the idea to a hypothesis and share it with others. I have been struggling with the hot summer of Morocco since my childhood and as I migrated to Germany the winter was each year a nightmare, it's not just me who feels this way, it's millions of people on the planet. The hypothesis is not limited to the startup operation or to the mentioned localities; the combination of the two cities is just a coincidence because I lived most of my life in them. In fact, it makes more sense to establish a test for the hypothesis within the European Union due to multiple difficulty vectors (Bureaucratic, Geographic, Language, Currency, etc.). For example, the cities Mainz in Germany and Valencia in Spain are perfectly suitable for testing the hypothesis, since a  partnership between the cities already exists, both are within the Union, the universities of the cities also have collaboration agreements and the climates of the cities match the hypothesis criteria.
